NAU experts to place 'War Requiem' in context

A panel of five NAU College of Arts and Letters scholars will help frame a complex musical masterpiece within a historical and artistic context during an upcoming dinner and discussion, followed by a Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra performance.

"Benjamin Britten's War Requiem in Context" will be held from 5-7 p.m. April 11 at Ashurst Auditorium.

Presentations include:

• An introduction by Edith Copley, director of choral studies at NAU and conductor of FSO's War Requiem
• "Aspects of Benjamin Britten's Music," by Julie Brown, assistant professor of music
• "The Bombing of Coventry and its Cathedral during the 'Blitz' in the Battle of Britain," by David Kitterman, associate professor of history
• "Wilfred Owen: Poetry and the 'Pity of War'," by Nancy Paxton, professor of English
• "The Martyred Cathedral(s) of Coventry," by Aly Jordan, associate professor of art history

The orchestra's performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ardrey Auditorium.
