State announces changes in dependent coverage

The Arizona Department of Administration has announced that the recently legislated definition of dependent will not be applied to the state employee insurance plans this year.

The current health insurance coverage for enrolled domestic partners, dependents of domestic partners, non-students aged 19-25, students aged 23-25 and disabled dependent children 19 and older will remain in place from Oct. 1, 2009, through Sept. 30, 2010.

The department did indicate that the new definition of dependent will apply as of Oct. 1, 2010, at which time enrolled dependents who do not meet the new definition will lose their coverage.
