Black History Month concludes Help celebrate NAU’s Black History Month during closing ceremonies at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the NAU Fieldhouse. Co-sponsored by the Black Student Union and the Office of Residence Life, the celebration features a barbecue and activities such as games, dancing and contests. Campus and the public are invited to this free event. An Evening of Poetry with Nikki Giovanni Giovanni, a renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist and educator, maintains a prominent place as a strong voice of the black community. Many of her books have received honors and awards. She is a distinguished professor at Virginia Tech University. Most recently, Giovanni’s children's picture book Rosa, about the civil rights legend Rosa Parks, became a Caldecott Honors Book, and illustrator Bryan Collier won the Coretta Scott King award for best illustration.
