Testing services absorbed by Center for Business Outreach Students will have access to enhanced testing services and resources come July 1, when The W.A. Franke College of Business will assume all testing functions formerly associated with NAU’s Counseling and Testing Center. “This is a move that maximizes campus resources and that will ultimately benefit students with expanded hours, improved technology, a modern facility and a top-notch staff,” said Wayne Fox, assistant dean of the college and director of the Center for Business Outreach, which will oversee testing services on campus. Counseling services still will be available at the current location in building 26A on central campus. But access to tests—such as the ACT, SAT, CLEP and ASE that students may need to get into college, to get college credit, to place out of college classes or to prepare for life after college—will move to the Center for Business Outreach. Disability Resources is unaffected by this change, and Disability Resource testing services will continue to be offered at the Ponderosa Building, building 92. Having provided online testing services for more than six years through its Computer Training Center in The W.A. Franke College of Business, the Center for Business Outreach is able to absorb the testing services without having to hire additional staff. “It’s a natural extension for what we’ve been doing for a number of years,” Fox said. “As bad as things are with regard to the budget situation, you’ve got to find the opportunities where they exist. We have in place an outstanding team and we are already making our resources available to more than 11,000 people per year through our center’s six operating units.” Fox said the transition is already under way, and he anticipates all testing functions will be in place by July 1 or sooner. The move is a result of the recent elimination of testing services at the Counseling and Testing Center, which was in response to NAU President John Haeger’s request for budget reduction strategies in each vice presidential area on campus.
