Jonathan Diller, a senior construction management major, is poised to help build environmentally friendly buildings since he passed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional exam (L.E.E.D. A.P. v. 2.2 New Construction) in March. The U.S. Green Building Council advances energy and material efficiency and sustainability for construction projects through the LEED green building rating system. This difficult exam also was passed by senior construction management major Tyler Posten in 2008. NAU has three LEED-certified buildings on campus and is commited to building new structures to a LEED-certified standard. Paul Keim, Regents’ professor of biological sciences and Cowden endowed chair in microbiology, had a full-page interview in the March issue of Science. The interview recounts key moments of his involvement with the FBI in the seven-year investigation of deadly anthrax letters sent in 2001. Teena Olszewski, director of the College of Education’s Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, known as GEAR UP, was selected as a primary negotiator to prepare proposed federal regulations for the discretionary grant programs reauthorized by Congress last year. Olszewski was appointed to the Title IV Committee by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education to develop the regulations for the GEAR UP, TRIO and Migrant Education programs. Ellen Nymark, program coordinator for Distance Learning, won a Teal & Silver Award from Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The awards program recognizes the contributions and positive impacts of individuals who support Chandler-Gilbert Community College students, employees, programs, services and the college community. Nymark will receive her award at a ceremony in May. Megan Wirickfierro, sophomore business major, and John Davis, junior physics and chemistry major, presented a poster “Beyond Black and White: Our Vietnam Experience,”at the Western Regional Honors Council’s annual conference in Spokane, Wash., last month. |
