Everest climber to be featured during
‘Teaching for a Change’ conference

Jake Norton, who has scaled Mount Everest five times, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Teaching for a Change conference in Flagstaff.

Registration spaces are still available for the conference, which will be June 15 through 17 at the High Country Conference Center. Norton, a professional photographer who has worked for the Discovery Channel, PBS and the BBC, will be featured June 16.

“Since so many teachers and educators have limited travel funds, this year the Teaching for a Change conference is both an affordable opportunity and a chance for inspiration for those who are passionate about teaching and learning,” said Frances Hill, associate professor in the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, and plenary speaker for this year’s conference.

Norton's address will feature photos taken from atop the world's highest mountains. He has climbed several of the famed “Seven Summits,” including Everest and Mount Kilimanjaro. He has led five expeditions into the Peruvian Andes and reached the summit of Mount Rainier 88 times.
