NAU's spring enrollment increases again

Northern Arizona University’s spring enrollment reached a new record as official semester enrollment head counts revealed 22,421 students in Flagstaff and at sites throughout Arizona.

This is a 4.7 percent increase over the spring 2009 total of 21,413.

The spring enrollment growth resembles the record growth recorded in the fall 2009 of 23,600, which was a 4.9 percent increase over fall 2008. Spring enrollments are typically less than fall enrollments.

NAU's total spring 2010 enrollment on the Flagstaff campus is 14,982, compared to 13,752 in spring 2009. Online enrollment is 2,609, compared to last year's 2,549. There also were increases in the number of minority and international students.

Undergraduate enrollment increased more than 9 percent over last year, with 17,291 students in spring 2010 versus 15,827 in spring 2009. Several colleges also saw healthy increases, including Arts and Letters (186 over last spring), Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences (576 over last spring) and Social and Behavioral Sciences (418 over last spring).

There were slight increases in graduate enrollment on the Flagstaff and Yuma campuses; however, overall graduate enrollment and enrollment at NAU’s community campuses each dipped slightly from last year.

"The Arizona university system has been challenged to educate more students, and our enrollment growth is a testament to Northern Arizona University’s commitment to meeting that charge,” said NAU President John Haeger. “NAU is well on its way delivering on the Arizona Board of Regents’ goal of increasing the number of baccalaureate degrees in the state by 50 percent by 2020.”
