Flagstaff named among best college towns in nation

Flagstaff was listed among the nation’s top 20 college towns of its size, according to a new publication from the American Institute for Economic Research.

In its annual College Destinations Index, the institute provides a quantitative ranking of the 75 best towns and cities to live in if you’re a college student. The locations were chosen from an analysis of the 222 metropolitan statistical areas with student populations of 15,000 or more.

Northern Arizona University’s hometown ranks No. 14 among college towns with less than 250,000 residents, based on 12 measures that range from student concentration and diversity, to arts and leisure, to entrepreneurial opportunities.

"Flagstaff's beautiful scenery, world-class attractions and historic downtown are a draw for visitors, students and entrepreneurs alike," said Heather Ainardi, director for the Flagstaff Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Northern Arizona University is a huge part of Flagstaff's character, and the city and university work hand-in-hand to create an environment that encourages all of these groups to select Flagstaff as their destination of choice."
