Evangeline L. Jacobs, former assistant business dean

Evangeline Lucille Young Jacobs, longtime lecturer and former assistant dean for the College of Business Administration, died Oct. 3, 2012, in Santa Rosa, Calif. She was 70.

Jacobs was born in Lubbock, Texas, on Dec. 13, 1941, to Arthur and Vera Berg Young and was the youngest of three children.

She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She then made her way to California and was one of a handful of women at the time to graduate from Stanford with a master’s in statistics. She went on to work at IBM, where she met her future husband of 43 years, Neil Jacobs.

The family left California in 1977 and settled in Flagstaff, where Jacobs joined the faculty at Northern Arizona University in the College of Business as a senior lecturer in computer information systems and eventually became assistant dean for the college. She retired in 2003.

She was an active member of the community through volunteer efforts with the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. The couple cultivated their love of travel and other cultures—traveling the world and living abroad on multiple occasions. In 2010, the Jacobs relocated to Santa Rosa to be closer to their children and grandchildren and the northern California coast Jacobs loved so much.

She is survived by her husband, Neil, a professor emeritus for NAU’s College of Business; five children: Michelle Wothers (Gary), Kim Elkins (Bill), Joseph (Danette Krueger), Michael (Diane) and Caroline (Michael Lawless); eleven grandchildren and many friends.

A memorial funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at a later date, with a reception to follow. Details are forthcoming.
