Forums scheduled for new police chief candidates The search for a new chief of the NAU Police Department has been extended, and four new candidates have been invited to participate in public forums. Faculty, staff, students and the public are invited to participate this week and next. The first forum will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the University Union Sycamore room. It will feature Charles F. Martens, a 30-year police veteran currently a lieutenant with the Flagstaff Police Department. The second open session is scheduled for 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in the University Union Oak Creek room. Gregory T. Fowler, an assistant police chief with the city of Mesa Police Department, will participate. Two more forums are being organized and will be announced when finalized. The additional candidates are Paul K. McGuinnes, police chief of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and Roy E. Melnick, police chief of the town of Ashland, Mass.
