Furlough program starts Wednesday
With the new Mandatory Furlough Program about to begin for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, Human Resources would like to ensure every university employee is aware of the following:
- Beginning Wednesday, July 1, employees will be able to see their required amount of furlough in LOUIE > Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > View Leave Balances. This has been calculated based on the criteria outlined in the Mandatory Furlough Guidelines.
Note: Those faculty and staff whose contracts begin later in the fiscal year will only see furlough balances and be able to take furlough once their contract begins.
- There is still some hope that the final number of required days may be reduced based on the outcome of the state budget. Until a final decision is communicated, it is recommended that those employees whose salaries are $40,000 and above not take more than two furlough days (for a full-time FTE). For those whose salaries are below $40,000, it is recommended that they wait to take any furlough days until more is known. Furlough time taken in excess of the final required amount of days can’t be ‘paid back.’
- The Shared Work Program–a program that allows full-time employees to apply for partial unemployment benefits to offset furlough–is available beginning July 1. New information and application materials are available on the Shared Work page and applications are being accepted now.
If you have questions or concerns about the furlough program, your furlough balance, or how to schedule and record furlough time, please talk with your supervisor, visit the Human Resources Furlough Information page or contact Human Resources at HRcontact@nau.edu or (928) 523-2223. |
