Norovirus update

As of 3:30 p.m., Monday, July 25, no new cases of norovirus-like illness were reported to the Coconino County Health Department that can be linked to the current outbreak on the Northern Arizona University campus.

As reported earlier today, to our knowledge only six employees who were in direct contact with the ill campers have become sick.

As a reminder, if employees display norovirus-like symptoms they should stay home and contact the Coconino County Health Department at (928) 522-7814 to report their illness. Employees can return to work once they are symptom free unless they are food service employees. Food service employees should contact their supervisor to discuss their return to work.

Employees who have questions about their specific situation should contact their supervisors. The Human Resources Department will work with public health experts to assist supervisors or employees.

Cardinals decide to move camp

Also late Monday, the Arizona Cardinals announced that the team has decided to move its 2005 training camp from the NAU campus.

"Since becoming aware of the situation at NAU, we've spent a considerable amount of time in discussions with university officials, outside health professionals and our own medical personnel to determine the best course of action," said Rod Graves, vice president of football operations. "The overwhelming concern obviously was the health and well-being of our team. Despite what have been extraordinary efforts on the part of everyone at NAU to accommodate our team, in the end even the slightest risk of exposure was something we cannot chance. Because of that, we feel this is the most appropriate approach to take."

"Naturally, we're deeply disappointed," said NAU President John D. Haeger. "The Cardinals visited with us extensively and explored a number of possibilities to make this work for the 2005 training camp. We certainly understand their concerns and respect their decision. We'll miss them in Flagstaff this year, but look forward to opportunities to work with the Cardinals organization in the future."
