What is the difference between Business Objects and LOUIE (PeopleSoft)? Arrow up - Go back to letter navigation.
LOUIE is a real-time transactional system which handles day-to-day operations like enrolling students into classes and posting grades. Business Objects is a reporting tool which uses the data warehouse data to generate reports. The data in LOUIE changes minute to minute. The data in Business Objects is refreshed seven nights a week from the LOUIE system and does not change throughout the day.
A Transactional System Like LOUIE... A Data Warehouse with Business Objects...
Processes billions of transactions daily. Processes one transaction daily that contains millions of records
Deals with one account at a time. Deals with a summary of multiple accounts.
Users perform transactions like enrolling students into classes and entering grades. Users run reports which reflect the LOUIE transactions but users can not enroll into classes or enter grades in Business Objects.
Runs day-to-day operations Creates reports for strategic decision-makers.

What is the NAU Data Warehouse Arrow up - Go back to letter navigation.
The NAU Data Warehouse is a central storage space for information that comes from different systems across the university. Many of the university business and student systems do not interact with one another. The NAU Data Warehouse brings these different systems together into one place where users can view and analyze data to support the decisions they make every day. Now, with the NAU Data Warehouse, users can see "The Big Picture" by examining university-wide trends and patterns. That means better-informed decisions about policies that affect the university.

Due to FERPA regulations, an NAU faculty or staff member can have access if and only if s/he has a need to know the information as part of an official and legitimate educational interest.
Under this principle, access to student information is based on normal job duties and the purpose and scope of the proposed use of the information.
All employees requesting access to the NAU Data Warehouse are required to have training in FERPA regulations.
