TAMS Steering Committee:
The Tribal Air Monitoring Support (TAMS) Center is currently accepting nominations for four TAMS Steering Committee members. The
Steering Committee members will serve two-year staggered terms beginning on October 1, 2008, their terms ending on September 30, 2010. If

ITEP PA Program:
ITEP's Glenn Gehring steps-up the Professional Assistance Programs with Air Monitoring Support assistance to Navajo Nation EPA, Coeur d’ Alene tribe in Idaho, Shoshone-Bannock air staff, Makah Nation in Washington, and the Southern Ute Tribe.
Though faced with diffcult obstacles, Gehring remains positive about his progress, "I’m willing to help when I can; I’m also willing to learn. TAMS PA is usually free to the tribes, so one thing is for certain, the price is right."

Solid Waste Solutions in Rural Alaska:
ITEP'r Jen Williams provides examples from rural Alaska that will allow villages to take the relevant issues and make local decisions of how best to allot their public health and solid waste management resources and which waste type components are best addressed short-term and which waste type components are best addressed long-term.

Former ITEP'ers:
Sarah Kelly leaves ITEP after seven years as manager of Tribal Environmental Resource Center. TAMS Co-Director Farshid Farsi leaves after several years with ITEP. Farshid excepts the TAMS EPA Co-Director postion. Also, former ITEP'er Glenn Gehring returns to ITEP as the Technical Specialist at TAMS Center.

New ITEP Director - Cal Seciwa:
NAU's Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals has a new director. Zuni tribal member Calbert (Cal) Seciwa took the reins of the tribal environmental training institute, based at NAU's duBois Center, on March 5. "It's good to be part of ITEP," Seciwa says. "I've seen the Institute grow and flourish under the late Virgil Masayesva's vision of what an organization can do for our Native American communities in the environmental arena. I applaud his work and that of all the staff here, and I look forward to continuing that great work."

New Programs:
ECI (Environmental Compliance and Inspection Program), a training and technical assistance program in environmental compliance issues to build the capacity of tribes to conduct effective civil inspections. This program was created under US EPA order 3600.1 in 2001 and is conducted in partnership with the National Enforcement Training Institute and the US EPA. Our courses are intended to prepare participants to conduct civil inspections under Tribal and/or US EPA authority.

TSWEAP (Tribal Solid Waste Education and Assistance Program) was initiated by ITEP in October 2006 with funding from the US Department of Agriculture. This program will provide training and assistance in the field of solid waste for tribal nations and communities located in several states. The primary mission of TSWEAP is to create and deliver five training courses for tribal solid waste professionals during 2007.

SEETB (Sustainable and Energy Efficient Tribal Building Program) program was initiated by ITEP in the summer of 2006. This program was started by a Environmental Research, Development, and Education for the New Economy (ERDENE) grant from the State of Arizona. Announcements will also be made of Green Building conferences and training opportunities.
