Tribal Solid Waste Education and Assistance Program (TSWEAP)::
The Tribal Solid Waste Education and Assistance Program was initiated by ITEP in October 2006 with funding from the US Department of Agriculture. This program will provide training and assistance in the field of solid waste for tribal nations and communities located in the following states: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. The primary mission of TSWEAP is to create and deliver five training courses for tribal solid waste professionals during 2007 (these tentative courses can be found by clicking on the training link below).

ITEP will cover lodging and per diem while participants will be responsible for the their own travel to and from the courses. Each course will be designed for twenty participants and will include lectures, small group activities, and open discussion of the solid waste issues tribes face today.
TSWEAP will also offer mentoring opportunities and direct assistance to tribal staff engaged in the field of solid waste management. A special advisory board of solid waste professionals from western Native American nations will be created to assist in the development of courses, to act as instructors, and to provide one-on-one assistance to other tribal staff members facing specific issues in managing and regulating solid waste.
