Tribal Waste and Response Assistance Program (TWRAP)::
In late 2008 ITEP was awarded funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER), which has allowed ITEP to expand our assistance activities for tribal nations and communities in exciting new directions.

ITEP Tribal Solid Waste Education and Assistance Program

The OSWER-funded TSWEAP activities will be taking place from November 1, 2008 to October 31, 2013. These activities include:
  • The development of a national steering committee of tribal professionals working in solid waste, hazardous waste, brownfields, emergency response, and related fields;

  • The creation of an annual tribal conference focused on solid waste, hazardous waste, brownfields, emergency response, and related fields;

  • The design and delivery of four specialized training courses - two in the Lower 48 States and two in Alaska - focused on solid waste, hazardous waste, brownfields, emergency response, and related fields;

  • Working with faculty and researchers at Northern Arizona University, in conjunction with tribal and federal partners, three specialized research projects focused on solid waste, hazardous waste, brownfields, emergency response, and related fields will be completed.

For additional information about these activities, please click on the OSWER Project Flyer link below.

In coordination with other ITEP programs, TWRAP produces a quarterly electronic newsletter called Full Circle. If you would like to be added to the contact list for TWRAP (which will insure that you receive applications for upcoming courses as well as a copy of Full Circle) please email Todd.Barnell@nau.edu.

If you would like more information about TWRAP activities, training courses, and other projects, please contact either of the staff members listed below.
