Tribal Wastewater Training Center::
The Tribal Wastewater Training Center (TWTC) is currently developing a comprehensive wastewater training and education center for tribes. The development of the center is in accordance with 104(g) of the Clean Water Act, which targets training for operation and maintenance of wastewater facilitates. The TWTC combines the capabilities of ITEP and Onsite Wastewater Demonstration Project (OWDP) at NAU. The OWDP has conventional and alternative wastewater treatment technologies exclusively for training purposes. The TWTC has implemented a wastewater-training program for tribal wastewater operators and provides technical outreach for tribal wastewater facilities. Training targets all levels of facility needs from facultative lagoons to package treatment plants. Through the TWTC wastewater operators will have the opportunity to get training locally at their facility or attend advanced training courses in conjunction with the OWDP.
Objectives:
- Develop training course for tribal wastewater operators and managers
- Establish a continuing training/education program for wastewater operators
- Provide on-site technical assistance and outreach
- Establish a network to promote effective tribal utility/wastewater management and administration
- Develop a resource center for tribal wastewater professionals
- Provide wastewater operator certification exams and certification through the State of Arizona
- Establish a tribal train-the-trainer format
- Develop a network with other 104(g) training centers
