Alaskan Solid Waste Program::
In 1998, ITEP initiated a program to assist with the training needs of Alaskan Natives involved in solid waste management. This program was designed to provide an introduction to basic issues associated with developing and implementing a solid waste management program for native communities in rural Alaska. Since program origination, ITEP has modified and delivered ten courses throughout Alaska in collaboration with villages, tribal organizations, regional corporations, ADEC, EPA, and other NGO’s.

Currently, ITEP offers two courses as part of the Solid Waste Program. Introduction to Solid Waste Management, introduces the basic concepts and deals with the most common problems associated with solid waste management in rural Alaska. Tribal Solid Waste Administration, builds upon the first course and addresses the administrative/technical challenges Alaskan Natives face in managing rural landfills.
