Case 1 in the Lakes Environmental Training Manual will guide you step-by-step through the process of adding sources to an inventory. Although the Case 1 is built around a county example, it is the easiest way we know to guide you through the process of adding sources step-by-step. In this section, we will provide some introductory information and reminders on subjects we have already covered.
You will be creating a new project in Case 1. The Lakes Training Manual gives you instructions on saving it to a certain folder within the TEISSVw folder. We recommend that, instead, you create a folder on your desktop and save the project there. As part of the TEISS tutorial, Lakes has already created a Case 1 folder and project within the C:\
TEISSVw/Tutorial folder, so you can see the finished result. If you create the folder as directed in the Training Manual, you will be asked if you want to replace that existing file. By creating a folder on your desktop, you can easily delete the project when you are done with the exercise and keep the completed Case 1 example that is in the TEISSVw folder as an example for future reference.
After you have gone through the new project wizard as directed in the manual, you will again be asked to enter the username and password.
Remember the defaults are:
Username: administrator
Password: Teiss
The password is case sensitive. That means the "T" must be capitalized and the rest of the letters in lower case, or TEISS will not recognize it. A common error is to have unknowingly have the Caps Lock on. If you have the Caps Lock on, TEISS will not recognize the password.

For this exercise, you will note that we are passing the inventory preparation plan by. The IPP was covered in Lesson 4. The focus of this section is to learn to add sources.
As you get more familiar working with TEISS you must know that you should never Delete or Modify files and folder structure in the TEISSVw folder.

These folders contain the files and programs that TEISS needs to run. If they are changed or removed, TEISS will not work correctly, if at all!!
It is always a good practice to create new folders to store/save your TEISS View projects. Create these folders outside of the C:\TEISSVw folder.
!!REMEMBER - ALWAYS back up your TEISS project. If you have a network drive, you could save a dated copy of your project to the network after each time you work on it. Another good strategy is to make a back-up copy on a CD.
!!Important Note: TEISS is not built to work on networks. Your TEISS project must be saved to the computer that TEISS is installed on.
If you are working with another person within your tribe on your TEISS project, you can save a copy to the network drive that the other person can access. When either of you wants to work on the TEISS project, you will need to copy it to your computer to do so. If you do this, make sure you are in close communication with the other person to avoid having two copies of your TEISS project, each with different information in it. |
