Lesson 8 - Case Project 1

8.2 - Source Type Toolbar

In this lesson, you will use the source type toolbar.

The source type toolbar gives you a way of graphically adding sources to your project by simply drawing them on the map. This is handy if you do not have a GPS system to use to get latitude and longitudes or UTM coordinates for your point sources. Without the coordinates, TEISS allows you to estimate the location by just looking at the map and drawing the source on with your best guess, it will assign coordinates based on what you have drawn.

Point sources are the only source types that require a coordinates for their release points. For every other source type, except forest, range and agricultural fires, you do not really need to draw a shape on the map, even though Case 1 will instruct you to do so. For now, follow along with Case 1's instructions. But in Lesson 10, we will teach you a simpler way to add area and mobile sources to your project.

When using the facilities tool to draw a facility, you will basically be drawing a box. After you select the facility tool, the first place you click on the map will be the first corner of your facility box. After you have placed that corner, a red line extends from that point to the mouse pointer. The next place you click will be the next corner. You can add as many "corners" as you like to make whatever shape you like. The facility will be complete when you click back on your beginning point.

When the shape is closed the Facility data entry window will open in the outline view, so you can start entering information about this facility. There will be more on what needs to be entered in Case 1 in the Training Manual.

Next you will use the release point tool to draw the release point in the facility. If the facility just has fugitive emissions, or you are not sure of the exact location of the stack or vent that the emissions come out of, we recommend putting the release point in the middle of the facility.

!!Note: Be sure to draw your release point inside the facility, that way, TEISS automatically knows that it should put the information about this release point into the correct facilities folder.

As soon as you place the release point on the map (one click) the release point data entry window will open in the outline view, so you can start entering information about this release point. There will be more on what needs to be entered in Case 1 in the Training Manual.

!!Note - As you enter data remember the rules about the TEISS Input Field colors!
