Course: Developing a Tribal Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide tribal staff with the tools to create a plan, revise an existing plan, and/or more
effectively monitor the work of outside contractors.
Course Content:
- Discussion of the state of solid waste management by participants
- Description of the "Five Elements of an ISWMP"
- Community Service Area
- Tribal Solid Waste Program - Structure and Administration
- Tribe's Current and Proposed Waste Management Practices
- Funding, Sustainability, and Long-Term Goals
- Obtaining Approval of the Plan
Participant Eligibility:
Applicants must be employed by a federally recognized tribe. The course is specifically developed for staff employed in all
aspects of solid waste management.
Course Fees:
There are no tuition or registration fees required. ITEP will pay for lodging expenses (room and taxes) and reimburse per diem
(at the rate established by Northern Arizona University) for up to 20 participants. Participants are responsible for their own travel costs.

schedule (agenda), hotel logistics and additional course travel policies.
