Tribal Waste and Response Assistance Program (TWRAP):
Since 2008, ITEP has worked under a cooperative agreement with the US Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER), which allows us to assist tribal professionals across the country in the fields of solid waste, brownfields, underground storage tanks, Superfund, and emergency response. Beginning in 2014, USEPA’s Office of Water (OW) has joined this partnership, which allows us to include tribal water programs at our annual conference, the Tribal Lands and Environment Forum.

The activities conducted under TWRAP include:
  • The establishment and coordination of the TWRAP Steering Committee, a national Tribal Partnership Group composed of tribal professionals working in solid waste, brownfields, underground storage tanks, Superfund, and emergency response;

  • The development and delivery of the annual Tribal Lands and Environment Forum during the third week of August each year;

  • The design and delivery of specialized training courses focused on solid waste, brownfields, underground storage tanks, Superfund, and emergency response;

  • Providing ongoing assistance to the Tribal Superfund Working Group, including coordinating their conference calls, scheduling in-person meetings, and providing training opportunities;

  • The development of various special websites and online resources to assist tribal professionals working in the fields of solid waste, brownfields, underground storage tanks, Superfund, and emergency response.

In coordination with other ITEP programs, TWRAP produces a bi-monthly electronic newsletter called Full Circle. If you would like to be added to the contact list for TWRAP (which will insure that you receive applications for upcoming courses as well as a copy of Full Circle) please email Todd.Barnell@nau.edu
