Lab News
As the fall 2008 semester progresses, the ACAD Student Services (Labs) group continues to meet the challenge of satisfying the university’s academic computing population’s ever increasing needs for technology.
Numerous changes have taken place in the past year, particularly in the Learning Resources Center (South Lab) including the addition of a sizeable area for the ACHD walk-in center and office, and the addition of a color printer that students can use for transparencies and other projects requiring special sized paper provided by the users. Additionally—pending power and data lines—some LED reader boards are expected to be installed. These boards will display critical as well as useful information to the facility’s users.
A computer refresh was made this past summer, and now all labs are equipped with machines and software adequate to meet the demands of the university’s typical academic population.
A new Labs page is being added to the ITS website and will contain useful information about lab facilities. It will include particulars such as a campus map that highlights the buildings in which ITS/ResHall labs are located. The user will be able to click on the building image and be directed to a detailed building map and the exact location of the lab, directions to the lab, what resources the lab offers, and a real-time availability of PCs in the lab at that particular time.
The Labs group continuously tries to identify, acquire, and implement resources that can be incorporated into the labs environments to enhance the academic community’s computing capabilities.
