ITS Web Services

 

ITS offers web services for students, faculty, staff and departments at NAU. The services offered are outlined below:

Students:

NAU has two web servers that are specifically geared for NAU students. The first server is called Dana. Dana is a UNIX server that supports PHP and MySQL. The second server, called Pine, is a Windows-based IIS server capable of hosting ASP and ASP.net web sites. All current students with have access to these servers. Faculty and Staff:

All faculty and staff of NAU are provided with individual web space on the Unix/Apache server Jan. In addition, an individual web account may be requested on the IIS server Oak. Visit our Web Servers page to learn about the services offered on both of these servers. To request an Oak account, fill out the online form, requesting an individual account.

You can use your Jan or Oak account for individual web pages.

For information on creating a web-based course, send an e-mail and ask about WebCT.

ITS recommends using the tools Front Page or Dreamweaver for web site authoring. We offer free training for both of these tools monthly. See the training schedule.

All web pages kept on an NAU web server must adhere to the NAU Web Policy.

Departmental:

Many existing departmental web sites are located on one of the Apache servers - Sapphire or Jan(www2). Other departmental accounts are located on the IIS server www4.

Which server your department's site should run on really depends on the services needed and the ability of the web author & adminstrative staff who will be keeping the site up-to-date. If you would like assistance deciding where to place your department's web site, contact us through the Solution Center at (928)523-1511. We also assist people with site migration from Jan or Sapphire to www4.

To request a new departmental web site on www4, fill out the online account request form. This account will allow you to develop in ASP and offers FrontPage extensions.

To request a new departmental web site on www2, fill out the online account request form. This account will allow you to develop using Cold Fusion and CGI.
