Parents' Association News
Graduation information
Both the fall 2008, and the spring 2009 ceremonies will be held in the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. The schedule for both commencements is available online.

Final exams
Finals week is December 8-12, and students are busy preparing for final tests, presentations, and reports. Support your student by mailing a gift package with an encouraging note, or give him or her a caring phone call or email.

It's not too late for your student to get support from the Learning Assistance Centers, and here are a few tips that you might want to share:

Tip #1: Write down your finals schedule on a calendar along with the times that you will study.

Tip #2: Study in chunks: 20-50 minute time periods followed by a brief break (5-10 minutes) is the most effective way to study.

Tip #3: Remember that it is okay to feel some concern and anxiety over tests. This will help you focus on the task ahead. Three keys to managing stress are eating right, getting plenty of sleep, and managing your time.

Tip #4: Arrive about five minutes prior to the testing time.

Tip #5: Try to stay on a reasonably regular schedule of reviewing, eating, sleeping, and relaxing during daylight hours.

Important financial aid information
Given the state of the economy, the Office of Financial Aid encourages your student to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for college financial assistance.

The 2009-2010 FAFSA will be available January 1, 2009. In order to complete the application, you and your student will need your financial information from the 2008 tax year.

If your student has completed the FAFSA in the past, you may complete the Renewal FAFSA using your personal identification number (PIN). If this is your student’s first time applying, you and your student will need to obtain a PIN prior to completing the FAFSA.

If financial circumstances have changed during the 2008 tax year, please contact our office after completing your FAFSA and speak with a representative regarding your particular circumstance.

Student Health Tip

Add some fitness cheer!
A good number of people workout simply to stay in shape, and most of the time that’s fine. However, encourage your student to try setting a goal and become result driven to give his/her daily routine more meaning.

This season, mention some new activities like cross-country skiing, snowboarding, or completing a challenging hike. This will help battle boredom and speed up metabolism.

Remind your student to include Campus Recreation Services in his/her New Years resolutions too. Visit our website for hours, events, and services. Have a safe and active holiday season!

This tip brought to you by Campus Recreation Services.
