NAU Yuma
gets first assistant dean
For the first time, Northern
Arizona University's Yuma campus has an assistant dean.
Llewelyn Young Jr., named to the post on September 10,
is responsible for the daily operations of academic
services which encompass advising and scheduling of
classes.

Record enrollment
The university's enrollment
reached another high this semester, with the statewide student
count at 22,507 -- the most in a decade. The total number of
students on the Flagstaff campus is 14,766, which is 777 more
students than last year.

Parents’ Association recruiting board members
The Parents’ Association is
currently recruiting for the following four board positions:
recruitment, family weekend, orientation, and special projects
chairs.

these positions. Elections will take place during Family Weekend at
our annual meeting, Saturday, October 4 from 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. at Ashurst Auditorium. Please contact
Dianna Van Sanford, Parent and Family Programs Coordinator, if
you would like to be included on the election slate.
Voter registration
Your son or daughter can register to vote online in Arizona if they have an Arizona driver’s license or an Arizona non-operating identification card issued by the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) on or after October 1, 1996.
To register in her or his home state, your student can complete the national mail voter registration form. In order to vote, he or she must request an absentee ballot. Access the rules and regulations for each state and the national mail voter registration form online.

The Applied Research and Development building earned a "Go Beyond" award from the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories and R&D Magazine. Ishmael Beah lecture
The author of
this year's Summer Reading Program book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier,
will be on campus Thursday, October 2. Your student has a chance to
hear a rare, first-hand account of life as a child soldier. The
event is free, but those who wish to attend must have tickets.

Update: Volleyball, soccer, and football
The volleyball team opens Big Sky Conference play in Montana, while the football team travels to Southern Utah. The soccer team plays host to a tournament at Lumberjack Stadium

athlete spotlight: Bethany Leclair
Bethany
Leclair, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Arizona, finished fifth at the 2008 Mountain Shootout at the Continental Country Club in Flagstaff. Leclair, who is recovering from major shoulder surgery, shot a first-round 78 and followed with an even-par 73 to finish with a 5-over-par 151. LeClair helped
the university to a second-place finish in the five-team tournament played on Monday and Tuesday.
