Registration
Registration Forms
Registration forms may only be completed by the student's parent or legal guardian. Students interested in registering with the Academy may do so by mail, fax or in person. Payment can be made over the phone with a credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or American Express). No one will be considered registered before 50% payment is received (see Registration).
TopTuition and Payment Arrangements
Tuition amounts vary with the type of class or lesson being offered. 50% of the balance must be paid before instruction begins. Orchestra musicians must pay in full by the end of the first rehearsal. Private lesson students must pay in full by the end of their fourth lesson and full payment is due for Suzuki and Dance students on or before Friday, March 12, 2010. If balances are not paid in full by the designated deadline, a $25 late fee will be added to the remaining balance and instruction will cease pending payment.
Payment may be by check, cash (please do not mail), or credit card. Credit Card payments (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) may also be taken over the phone. No student will be completely registered until the signed registration forms have been received by our office and 50% payment is made. Past due accounts will result in the suspension of lessons and/or classes until fees are brought up-to-date. Parent or legal guardian is ultimately responsible for ALL tuition fees, regardless of any anticipated scholarship awards.
Fees include a $25.00 non-refundable application fee. No refunds will be given after the second class/lesson or for missed classes. All refunds must be requested in writing. There is a $25.00 fee for any check returned by your bank.
The Dance Cap will apply ONLY IF registration is completed BEFORE the first day of classes AND there is no past due amount on the family accounts.

Facilities
Most dance instruction is held in NAU's Ponderosa Building (located just off Milton on Riordan Road, across from Oregano's) and some at Synergy Fitness at the Safeway Plaza at 1500 East Cedar Avenue.
Music classes and private lessons are held in NAU's Performing and Fine Arts Building #37 (see campus map), on the corner of Riordan and Knoles (the same building as Ardrey Auditorium).
Northern Arizona University and the Academy will not be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property. All persons on university property MUST abide by University fire, safety, legal regulations and policies.
It is against State of Arizona statutes and NAU policy for anyone not registered through NAU or the Academy to use any university property for the purpose of lessons, classes or instruction of any kind. These policies and statutes apply to teacher, student, and parents of minor children.
TopOn-Campus Parking
Parking permits are required in most NAU parking lots prior to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Permits are available at Parking Services in the Centennial Building on the corner of Beaver Sreet and Dupont Avenue. Ask for a permit for Lots P-13 and P-14 (see campus map). For more information you may also visit their website Parking Services. Otherwise, please park in a metered lot (P-13 along the library or P-16A on Knoles Road across from the Performing Arts Building). Fines are considerable, so please be warned.
TopScheduling
Absences and Make-Up Lessons
Students (or a parent) enrolled in private lessons must notify their teacher 24 hours in advance if they plan to miss a lesson. One make-up lesson per semester is allowed at no additional charge. If a student is more than 15 minutes late for a private lesson, it may be recorded as missed and no make up lesson will be provided. Class absences by students will not be made up. If an Academy teacher is unable to meet their student at the regularly scheduled lesson time, the teacher is expected to notify their students with as much advanced notice as possible (minimum of 24 hours). Private lessons missed by the teacher will be made up.
TopSnow Days
Academy activities MAY be cancelled in the event of a severe snowstorm that creates hazardous driving conditions and closes the public schools. Contact the Academy Emergency Line (928) 523-2333 for up-to-date announcement via voicemail that will inform parents and students of such cancellations. Parents should not assume that Academy classes are affected by public school closures. Please err on the side of safety. Use discretion and good judgment in deciding whether road conditions are hazardous. NAU and the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy are not liable for accidents.
TopHolidays
Private music lessons may be scheduled on school holidays at the discretion of each Academy teacher. However, class instruction will not be scheduled on most holidays.

Recitals and In-Class Performances
Formal and informal recitals are an important part of the Academy's music program. They offer students the opportunity to perform, listen and to learn proper recital etiquette. These recitals take place throughout each semester and every student is encouraged to participate.
TopDance Attire
Students are required to provide their own dance attire (see Dance Requirements), class materials, as well as musical instruments where applicable. Contact the Academy office or teacher for additional information.
