The
Navajo Nation Archaeology Department currently has very few large projects
in progress on the Navajo Reservation. Fieldwork for Navajo Route 70
Grand Falls Road and Navajo Route 15 widening between Leupp and Dilcon
will completed this year.
We
also have finished excavation and surveys on the Navajo Route 21 road
between Red Lake and Kaibeto, N608 in Tuba City, Kaiparowits (Grand
Staircase/Escalante), a segment of NTP on Gray Mountain and Walnut Canyon
new lands survey. Other roads projects we have pending N8066 on Black
Mesa, N7 between White House Ruins and Sawmill.
The
staff and students at NNAD-NAU are also continuously performing small
archaeological survey projects for individuals and businesses on the
western Navajo reservation. These projects help allow residents to receive
vital services such as electricity and running water.
