NAU participating in nationwide public accountability report
Northern Arizona University has joined a new initiative to help prospective college students,
their families and other stakeholders compare public colleges and universities.
NAU is an early adopter of the “College Portrait,” a custom report of participating
schools designed to provide consistent, comparable and transparent information
on the undergraduate student
experience. Each report includes characteristics of the university and its students, the cost of attendance,
student engagement with the learning process and core educational outcomes.
“We fully endorse this nationwide effort to increase institutional accountability,”
said NAU President John Haeger. “Northern Arizona University must perform on a level that demonstrates its significance
to students and to society.”
The College Portrait is a product of the Voluntary System of Accountability project, a partnership
between the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the National Association of State
Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. The project is designed to help institutions meet the following objectives:
- demonstrate accountability and stewardship to the public
- measure educational outcomes to identify effective educational practices
- assemble information that is accessible, understandable and comparable
