MyNAU has online Help Pages that include a Tutorial, Frequently Asked Questions (which you are reading now), and Contact Information for personal help.
No. However, we have tried to make MyNAU your "one-stop shop" for everything you need to know and do at NAU. No other NAU website provides such easy access to so many things, including official campus announcements and events, LOUIE, your NAU email, your online courses, local and national news, search tools, personal bookmarks and reminders that you can access from any web browser in the world, and more! Plus, with CAS single sign-on, once you log in to MyNAU, you'll be able to access a variety of NAU online services without logging in to each one.
First, if you are logging in from other than an NAU lab computer, check to see if your computer is set to accept "cookies". To enable your browser to accept cookies, see How to Enable Cookies.
The MyNAU Tutorial has a lesson on logging in to MyNAU. Please read through that lesson, and if you still can't log in, refer to the Additional Help section on the main Help page.
No, it's not! Because MyNAU (along with other NAU sites such as LOUIE, Email Manager, etc.) uses the Central Authentication Service (CAS), logging out of MyNAU will NOT log you out of all NAU web sites! If you are at a public computer (in a computer lab, a library, a cyber-cafe, etc.) or even at a home computer that family members or roommates use, and your web browser is still active, your personal information is vulnerable and could be altered or deleted without your knowledge. Follow these steps to protect your personal information:
-Q
or menu command File->Quit before you leave the computer. Simply closing the
browser windows does not quit the program.A channel is a small chunk of information, usually set off from other channels on a webpage in a box of its own. Each channel contains its own specific information. In the picture of MyNAU below, the arrows point to several channels on the Community tab: Free Film Series, Sun Entertainment, Classifieds, Flagstaff Events and NAU Outdoors.
In the upper right-hand corner of each channel are buttons that control the channel's appearance.
FOCUS puts the
channel in "full screen" mode; it will take up the entire MyNAU page. Click the "Return to Tabs"
link to return to normal view.
MINIMIZE
collapses the channel so that only the title and control buttons are visible.
MAXIMIZE
expands a minimized channel to display its content
DETACH opens
the channel in a new browser window. This allows you to print a channel's contents.
REMOVE deletes
the channel from your MyNAU layout. The channel will no longer display until you subscribe to it again.
(Some channels are required and cannot be removed.)
In addition to these buttons, there may be other buttons to add functionality to a channel.
HELP will display
help information about the channel.
EDIT allows
you to change settings for the channel.
ABOUT will display
additional information about the channel.
Yes, MyNAU does require your computer to accept "cookies". If you are working from a lab computer, this option should already be set. If you are working from your personal computer, you may need to set it yourself. For help, go to How to Enable Cookies.
By clicking the
you have removed that channel from your MyNAU layout. To get the channel back you will
need to subscribe to it again. Do this through the User Preferences page: Click
Preferences in the upper right-hand corner of MyNAU. For detailed
instructions on how to add channels to your layout, see the
MyNAU Tutorial lesson on Adding Content.
Yes, there are a variety of ways to customize MyNAU.
If all you want to change is the color scheme, you can do that by choosing a different skin. The MyNAU Tutorial lesson on Changing Your Skin describes how to do that.
You also can change the arrangement of tabs and channels in MyNAU. You can move most channels to a different location on the same tab or to a new tab, add new channels and tabs, and remove most of your existing channels. For detailed instructions, see the MyNAU Tutorial lesson on Page Layout.
Some channels also allow for customization within the channel. The Bookmarks channel allows you to enter your favorite links, just like you would in a browser on your personal computer, but because you can access MyNAU from any web browser in the world, the links in the Bookmarks channel follow you everywhere! Other channels that allow customization include the Events Calendar, My Memos, RSS (News Feed) Selector, and Your Weather.
The default tabs in MyNAU are Services, Today@NAU, Learning, Community, Help, and My Stuff. Of these, only the My Stuff tab can be removed. Theoretically you could add as many tabs as you'd like, but keep in mind that the more tabs you add, the wider your layout will become, and you may have to scroll right and left to see all your tabs.

To add, remove or rearrange tabs, click on Preferences in the upper right-hand corner of MyNAU. A detailed description of how to customize your tabs is in the MyNAU Tutorial lesson on Tabs.
For a few channels in MyNAU, the Remove Channel button
will not be functional. These are typically channels that allow information to be updated and
sent to you with your MyNAU that you will not want to miss. Disallowing removal of these few
channels makes it easier for the ITS Solution Center and the Student
Technology Center to provide
assistance when you need help with MyNAU.
To subscribe to a new channel, click on Preferences in the
upper right-hand corner of MyNAU. Click on the
button in the location where you want to add the new channel. For complete
instructions on adding channels, see the MyNAU Tutorial lesson on
Adding Content.
No, MyNAU is intended for channels of interest to large segments of NAU's community.
You can, however, publish a personal web page on one of NAU's web servers (or elsewhere) and encourage your friends to link to it in their Bookmarks channel. Also, someone searching for you in the Directory Services channel will be provided with a link to your personal homepage, if it exists and if you have edited your directory record to include that information.
There are a variety of ways that NAU departments can add content to MyNAU. The department can request a topic in the NAU Announcements channel in order to inform the NAU community about non-event-related items of interest. Departmental events that are posted in the Campus Events Calendar will be reflected in MyNAU's Events Calendar channel as well. You can create an RSS feed for display in MyNAU. And if your department staff includes a web programmer, he or she can develop a channel specific to your department.
