Many channels already are provided for you in MyNAU, and there are even more channels that are available to be added. Before adding a new channel to your layout, though, it's a good idea to check your Site Map to see if it's already there!
To see what channels are in your MyNAU, just click the "Site Map" link in the upper right-hand corner:

You will see a page that lists all your tabs, the columns on those tabs, and the channels in those columns. You can read through the entire list or use your web browser's "Find" function to look for a particular channel. The Site Map shown below displays the channels that are provided by default to current students.

Now that you know how to use the Site Map to view the list of channels you already have, how do you know what other channels are available in MyNAU? There is a channel already in your layout that will tell you: It's called "Available Channels" and it's on your Help tab.
Channels in MyNAU are organized into categories. Some of the categories match your tab names, and all the channels on that tab will be listed in that category, plus possibly some additional channels. Other categories are provided to help you find channels more easily, such as the "Find" category that includes all the search tools available in MyNAU.

To see the channels in a category, just click on a category name to expand it. In the picture above, the "Learning" category is expanded, as indicated by the little triangle next to the word "Learning". Within the Learning category you can see several channels listed, such as Blackboard Vista Courses, Distance Learning, GPA Estimator, etc. Once you expand a category, each channel name is linked, and if you click on the channel name you can preview what the channel looks like. Note: channels previewed through Available Channels are for demonstration purposes only and may not be fully functional. You'll need to add the channel to your layout for full functionality.
To add a channel to your MyNAU layout, click "Preferences" in the upper right-hand corner of MyNAU. This will take you to the User Preferences page. (If you are unfamiliar with the User Preferences page, you may want to read the lesson on Page Layout before continuing with this lesson.)
On the User Preferences page, click on the name of the tab where you would like to
add the new channel. Then click the
button in
the place where you would like the new channel to be located.

In the picture above, the Services tab is selected. Notice that the
buttons don't display between all the channels. This is because
some of the channels on the Services tab are "locked"; you are not allowed to move or remove them.
Thus, you also are not allowed to add channels above them in the same column.
Clicking on an
button will take you to a new screen that allows
you to select your new channel.

There are 3 steps to follow to subscribe to a channel:
After a second or two, you will be returned to the User Preferences page, where you will see the new channel box in your layout representation. From here you can continue to add more channels or click either the "Home" link in the upper-right-hand corner, or the "Return to Tabs" link in the upper-left-hand corner, to exit from Preferences. Navigate to the tab where you added the new channel to view its content.
Remember that when you make changes to your MyNAU layout, you'll see those changes immediately. However, to make them permanent you'll need to save your new settings by logging out of MyNAU when you are finished making changes. (If you just close your web browser window without logging out, you may lose some of the changes you made.)
