You can change the arrangement of channels, columns, and tabs in MyNAU to create a website that is personalized just for you. You will see these changes immediately; however, to make them permanent you'll need to save your new settings by logging out of MyNAU when you are finished making changes. (If you just close your web browser window without logging out, you may lose some of the changes you made.)
The first step in customizing your MyNAU layout is to click the "Preferences" link in the upper right-hand corner.

This takes you to the User Preferences page (shown below). This page shows a graphical representation of your MyNAU layout, but without the actual channel content. The tab names are shown in the same order as in your layout, and clicking on a tab name will take you to that page. Just like in the normal MyNAU view, the name of the tab that you are currently modifying will display with a different background color. In the picture below, the "Today@NAU" tab is selected. Each tab's page is typically divided into two or three columns, and within each column are one or more boxes representing the channels in that column. The columns and channels display on this page in the same order and positions that they display on the tab in the normal MyNAU view.

From this page you can move the positions of most items in your layout.
There also are various settings you can change for the items in your layout.
Let's focus in on a single area from the User Preferences page, and look at all the options you have for making changes to columns and channels:

To set the properties for a column, click the
button. This will
take you to a new page that allows you to change the widths of the columns on that page,
to move the column to a different location, or even to delete that column and all of its channels.

The column widths are set in percentages. The columns will automatically widen and narrow to maintain these percentages, depending on the width of your web browser window. Please note that when you change the column widths for a tab, they must add up to 100%; you also need to be sure to include the percent sign (%).
If you choose "Move this column to a different location," you can move the column
to one of the highlighted locations on the same tab or choose another tab. Click on the vertical
button in the highlighted location where
you want to move your column.
Click the vertical
button
in the location where you want to add a column. You'll see the new, empty column in your layout,
and the column width percentage settings above the tab names. The default percentage (%) for the new column's width
will be 100%; you'll need to change the percentages so that all columns on that tab add up to 100%.
To move a column to the left or right, click one of the arrow buttons
(
or
) on either
side of the Select Column button at the top of the column. This will move the entire column
in that direction.
To move a column to a different tab, click the Select Column button at the top of that column, then click on the tab name where you want to move the column. Finally, click on the vertical Move Column Here button in a highlighted location on that tab.
A few columns can't be moved or deleted because they contain channels that can't be moved or deleted.
The
buttons indicate the locations on the tab where you can add a new channel. Clicking
one of these buttons will take you to the channel selection page. This is discussed in detail in the
Adding Content lesson in this tutorial.
The Edit button
on each channel box will
select that channel so you can move it to another location or delete it. This button will not be
functional on channels that you are not allowed to move or delete.
Similar to moving a column, if you choose "Move this channel to a different location," MyNAU will
highlight all the locations on that tab where you are allowed to move the channel. Click on one of the
buttons on that tab, or choose another tab.
Clicking the Remove Channel button
will remove that channel from your MyNAU layout.
This button will not be functional on channels that you are not allowed to remove.
If you remove a channel from your layout, then later change your mind, you can subscribe to it again. See the Adding Content lesson in this tutorial for step-by-step instructions.
Click the up
,
down
,
left
or right
directional arrow buttons
on the channel box to move the channel "one step" in your layout. (The left and right arrow buttons will
move the channel to the bottom of the previous or next column.) If you wish to move the channel several
steps, you may prefer to follow the directions in "Modifying a Channel" above.
If you've made changes to your MyNAU layout, then decide you don't like them, you can reset your layout to the default. Simply go to the User Preferences page, then under "Options for modifying Preferences," click the link for "Revert to default layout" as shown below:

When you revert to the default layout, you not only rearrange your tabs, columns and channels back to their original positions, but you also will remove any channels that you had added to your layout. So be sure this is what you really want to do!
Remember that when you make changes to your MyNAU layout, you'll see those changes immediately. However, to make them permanent you'll need to save your new settings by logging out of MyNAU when you are finished making changes. (If you just close your web browser window without logging out, you may lose some of the changes you made.)
