Tabs provide a way to organize the channels within your MyNAU layout. Several tabs are already provided for you, but you can add more tabs if you want, or change the order of the tabs to suit your needs.
MyNAU comes with several default tabs: Services, Today@NAU, Learning, Community, Help and My Stuff. You can add as many tabs as you like, but keep in mind that the more tabs you add, the wider your MyNAU layout will become, and you may have to scroll right and left to see all your tabs.
To add, remove, or rearrange tabs, click "Preferences" in the upper right-hand corner of MyNAU. This takes you to the User Preferences page. (If you are unfamiliar with the User Preferences page, you may want to read the lesson on Page Layout before continuing with this lesson.)
Within User Preferences, to the far right of your existing tab names you will see a button that says
. Clicking on that button will
take you to a page that allows you to enter the settings for your new tab.

When you create a new tab, it starts out empty. Read the Adding Content lesson in this tutorial to learn how to add information to your new tab.
From the User Preferences page, when you click on a tab name you'll see the name display with a different background color to indicate that it has been selected, and in the area above the tab names there will be one or more links. These links allow you to change settings for the tab.

Default Active Tab: Any tab can be set as your "default Active Tab". This defines the tab that is automatically selected (the tab you first see) when you log in to MyNAU.
Renaming a tab: To change the name of a tab, click on the tab's name to select it. If you are allowed to rename the tab, there will be an option for doing so. Type in a new name in the box next to where it says, "Rename the tab:" then click on the "Rename" button. Note: You will only be allowed to rename the My Stuff tab and any tabs you create. The Services, Today@NAU, Learning, Community and Help tabs cannot be renamed.
Removing a tab: To remove a tab from your MyNAU layout, click on the tab's name to select it. If you are allowed to remove the tab, there will be a link that says, "Delete this tab". Click on that link to remove the tab. Removing a tab also removes all the channels it contains from your MyNAU layout. Note: You will only be allowed to remove the My Stuff tab and any tabs you create. The Services, Today@NAU, Learning, Community and Help tabs cannot be removed.
As we saw in the lesson on Page Layout, you can change the order of the tabs simply by clicking the directional arrows to the left or right of the tab names.
Remember that when you make changes to your MyNAU layout, you'll see those changes immediately. However, to make them permanent you'll need to save your new settings by logging out of MyNAU when you are finished making changes. (If you just close your web browser window without logging out, you may lose some of the changes you made.)
