| March 12, 2010 | ABOR tells universities to cut salary budgets by May The Arizona Board of Regents on Friday morning directed university presidents to cut their state-funded salary budgets 2.75 percent by May 29. The presidents are to provide an implementation plan to regents within 30 days. In addition, the presidents are charged with producing a contingency plan for both revenue enhancement and budget reduction should Proposition 100 (the sales tax referral) fail. |

President Northern Arizona University appreciates Gov. Jan Brewer’s leadership in securing the federal stimulus funds for Arizona. The university’s $23.5 million share of the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund means we will not have to endure more draconian cuts to our workforce or reduced programs and services for students, nor do we have to pass along a larger cost of higher education to students and their families. Jan Brewer’s earlier line-item vetoes in the state budget. However, university budgets were not affected by Monday’s action. Read more. |

Jan Brewer today used her line-item veto authority to remove lump-sum budget reductions to the universities in the legislative budget that was forwarded to her early this morning, and she has called for a special session of the Legislature to begin Monday, As a result of the governor's actions, all state agencies and the universities will continue to operate as normal. |
