All programs require 120 hours for graduation. The department also offers the Political Science minor and an interdisciplinary International Relations minor. Both minors are appropriate for complementing majors in other academic disciplines.
The department faculty serves the undergraduate as well as the graduate curriculum, and most teach undergraduate courses at all levels, from introductory to advanced. The faculty has a wide range of professional and research interests based in areas as diverse as the environment, women's studies, ethnic studies, elections, the judicial process, protest movements, disability rights, the Presidency, and the politics of many countries and regions worldwide. The faculty offers a research-rich, yet undergraduate-focused model for education.
The objectives of our plans in Political Science, American Political Studies, and International Affairs are to provide students with knowledge of the theory, principles, and practice of government and politics at the local, national, and international levels and of the analytic tools in each discipline; to prepare students for occupations in business, government, nonprofit organizations, public relations, interest groups, policy institutes, teaching, and law; and to promote liberal education by fostering habits of critical study, clarity of thought, and diligence of research.
One of our undergraduate majors could be your passport to interesting studies and exciting career opportunities! International Affairs and American Political Studies are interdisciplinary programs that combine courses in Political Science and a variety of other fields. The Political Science program focuses on courses within the discipline, yet offers students considerable choice in selecting courses to match their interests. All three majors are excellent preparation for a wide array of career goals such as:
Lawyer, Paralegal (These are great Pre-Law majors!)
Management, Public Affairs, or other Business Fields
