Student Assistance

:: General Concerns
The Office of Student Life maintains open office hours in the afternoon Monday - Friday to assist students without the need for an appointment.  If we can assist you in anyway, please drop by or give us a call (Room 105, University Union, 928/523-5181).  We can meet at other times by appointment so just let us know.

:: Classes Missed Memos
If you are going to miss classes for some extended period of time due to an emergency (illness, surgery, family emergency, etc.), please let us know as we will make contact with your instructors via e-mail/memo to let them know that you will be absent.  Please understand that our notification will not be viewed as an excused absence by the instructor, but it does provide information to them as to why you are gone from class.  You will need to work with each individual instructor to make arrangements for missed work, tests, etc.

:: Institutional Excuse Forms
If you are a member of a registered student organization at NAU, you may need to attend a conference of some kind during the year.  If your involvement may mean that you will miss class for a period of time, please come by our office as you may qualify for an "institutional excuse".  Staff in our office could talk more with you to see if you or members of your organization qualify.

:: Sexual Assault Assistance
Student Life is one of many offices on campus that offers assistance to students who feel that they have been a victim of sexual assault. We will share various campus and community resources, talk with you about your options and work to ensure your safety.  To obtain more information about assistance please view the following: The NAU Response Protocol for Victims of Sexual Assault,the listing of Campus and Community Resources and the Anonymous Sexual Assault Report Form.

:: Withdrawing?
For a variety of reasons, it may be in a student’s best interest to take a period of time away from school. Withdrawing from NAU is when a student drops ALL of her/his coursework for a given semester, resulting in zero credit hours. If you would like to discuss withdrawing or other options our staff is available to help!

:: FERPA
FERPA This link will take you to the site that relates to the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act.  This particular federal law provides rights and responsibilities regarding student education records.  This site also provides a release form so that education records can be released to designated parties.
