Gravimetric Laboratory Analysis Operation
A Gravimetric Weighing Laboratory has been constructed to meet the needs of tribes seeking PM2.5 filter-weighing services. Currently five (5) tribes are using the TAMS Center weighing lab. The goal of the lab is to provide services to tribes who are just starting a PM2.5 program and to help the tribe with data management and validation efforts.
The Gravimetric Laboratory operates as a part of the TAMS Support Center that is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The lab serves as support mechanism to the Tribes who are in need of weighing services as they get their PM2.5 monitoring program operational. The weighing services are offered to the Tribes at no cost to them. The laboratory provides all the necessary materials needed for the sampling operations except for the samplers themselves. The Tribes are asked to sign a Service Agreement as a part of the TAMS Center policy. The Weighing Lab serves only for the Tribes associated with the TAMS Center. It is not open for commercial use.
The Laboratory is physically located in a refurbished Radon Chamber. The chamber was completely gutted and special concrete floor was poured to add more stability to the structure.
One of the pre-requisites to a successful weighing operation is to be able to reduce vibrations as low as possible. It is important to take whatever precautions available to make sure that you have a very stale facility.
