Which students can receive GPS messages? (Show/Hide)
All students enrolled in an NAU undergraduate course are automatically included in GPS rosters for those courses.
What is included in the GPS messages? (Show/Hide)
In addition to the topics and comments you chose, the email includes:
- a link to online student resources (ResourceConnect)
- actions to consider
- drop and withdrawal deadlines (direct links to Registrar and Extended Campuses enrollment calendars)

What do I need to know about typing personalized GPS messages? (Show/Hide)
- Your comments are copied verbatim into the student email and sent directly to the student
- No names necessary- student name and your name are auto-populated
- Enter grades only in secure grade text box (FERPA Compliant)
Can I get copies of the messages I send? (Show/Hide)
Yes, there is an option to click "Copy me on emails to students." When activated, a copy of each student email will be sent to your NAU email account.
Can I see previous messages I've sent for a student? (Show/Hide)
Yes, click on GPS History under a student's name in your GPS roster to access previous GPS emails you sent.
What if I want to report a concern on a topic that is not offered in GPS? (Show/Hide)
GPS is for academic issues only. Although possible, there is no guarantee of additional follow up by other NAU personnel on a reported concern. Use ResourceConnect to identify campus resources for a wide range of student issues.

Do I have to send all of my GPS messages in one sitting? (Show/Hide)
No, during a period, you can return to GPS messages as often as necessary. Messages that you have already sent will be collapsed and grayed out. You will see active windows only for the remaining students.
What about courses with multiple instructors or graders? (Show/Hide)
Multiple instructors, teaching assistants, and graders have access to send GPS messages. Since student replies will go directly to the person sending the messages, it is advised that courses with multiple instructors/TA's/graders coordinate one person to send GPS updates and that graders do not send GPS messages
Can I add to or change a sent GPS? (Show/Hide)
No. The moment you click "send" an email is sent to the student and a comment is posted in their student record. Because of the immediate automation, you cannot change a message once it is submitted. In the event you want to provide additional information, please email the student directly. In the event of an error, please email the student directly regarding the incorrect message and email gps@nau.edu to report. A retraction statement will be posted in the student record.
What if I make a mistake? (Show/Hide)
Because the email is immediately sent to the student and the comment is directly posted into the student record, mistakes cannot be retracted. Can I change my mind after I send "Send Neutral Messages to Remaining Students- performance reviewed, no concerns" for a class? (Show/Hide)
No. The emails are sent as soon as you click the button. In the event you need to provide additional information, please email the student directly. In the event of an error, please email the student directly regarding the incorrect message and email gps@nau.edu to report. A retraction statement will be posted in the student record.

What information is included in the student's LOUIE record? (Show/Hide)
Time and date, class title and section number, instructor name, each topic that you clicked, and any text that you typed.

Can I see the student record that I created from the GPS message? (Show/Hide)
It's possible. If you have the appropriate security roles to access Electronic Advising Notebook (EAN) records. Once in LOUIE, navigate to Campus Community, then select Electronic Advising Notebook. If you cannot access the EAN contact your college IT staff or ITS.
Who may view GPS information? (Show/Hide)
Advisors, student support personnel, and administrators may see GPS comments in the Electronic Advising Notebook (EAN) records or GPS data reports.
