NAU Virtual Lab
What is the Virtual Lab?
The NAU Virtual Lab (vlab) provides remote access to the Blackboard Vista course
management system, ArcGIS software and other software installed on the campus PC
lab image.
Once you connect to the Virtual Lab, you will see a Windows desktop that you can
navigate much like your own. When you save files, they will be stored in your Dana
or Jan file storage area.
This project was funded by the Student IT Fee.
Computer and Connection Requirements
To connect to the Virtual Lab you will need to have the following:
- Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection installed
- High-speed internet connection. Although it is possible to use this service over
a modem connection, we recommend a high-speed connection for better performance.
- No firewalls blocking TCP port 3389
- An active student, faculty, or staff account with NAU

Logging Out
Make sure that you log out from the Virtual Lab by clicking the Start button (on
the Virtual Lab desktop) and choosing Log Off rather than just closing your Remote
Desktop Client. If you just close the Remote Desktop Client you will remain logged
into the Virtual Lab until your session times out. You could lose any unsaved work
if you do this.
