Student Comments on NAU’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program
Students report that Women’s and Gender Studies touches their hearts and minds in ways that are personal and practical. Women’s Studies has the ability to give students a voice and a name to life experiences that have previously gone unacknowledged.
“The program gave me a sense of self and a sense of belonging to a larger community. It helped me form my own identity and value others’ identity development. The ‘personal as political’ was elucidated through my study and is a value I have subsequently carried with me.”
“I learned about important female historical figures that are not included anywhere else but this class. From the readings and movies I learned about events that have influenced women’s rights of today.”
“I knew some but very little about women’s experience in this life. Being male we are sheltered from a lot of women’s issues. I have learned a lot and I would recommend this class to all people, especially men."
“I always heard about feminism, but never thought anything about it. So, when my advisor said this course was required for my major I was skeptical. But as the semester progressed I started to understand it more and enjoy it. And it’s the only class I look forward to this semester.” |
