Congratulations to Alonna Payne, Gold Axe Award Recipient, December 2007

Alonna PayneEach semester, NAU recognizes seniors who have made outstanding contributions to the university in the areas of academic performance, service and activities. Those seniors selected receive the prestigious Gold Axe Award. The tradition of the Gold Axe Award dates back to 1933, a year after the student body adopted an axe as the symbol for Lunberjack athletics.


Alonna Payne, a WGS major and Criminal Justice minor from Minnesota, is active in issues around victim's rights on and off campus. She plans a career in law.



A Round of Applause for Amanda Coe, WST Outstanding Senior

Amanda is President of the MARS (Men Against Rape and Sexism) Project, and was instrumental in organizing Jackson Katz’s visit to campus this Spring. Women’s Studies recognizes Amanda’s efforts to educate men and women about gender violence prevention and to raise public awareness about gender violence. Amanda wrote the poem “About Men” as part of her capstone experience.


Kudus to Anne Ballard

Anne, a WST major, has a prestigious internship with the National Organization of Women (NOW) in Washington, DC this summer. Working with NOW’s field organizing team, Anne will be involved “in the nuts and bolts of grassroots organizing for NOW's broad range of priority issues.” She’ll gain experience organizing pickets, campaigns, conferences/summits, and speaking tours and in developing materials for outreach.


Kaelen Quintero

Congratulations to Kaelen Quintero,
Gold Axe Award Recipient, Spring 2007

Kaelen has been the president of ASWI (Associated Students for Women’s Issues) and is a vocal advocate for social justice on campus.
